What We Do/Services We Offer
Here is a list of services available to all Tyl students as needed:
ADMINISTRATIVE:
• Helping students with organization and study habits
• Monitoring student progress by meeting with teachers regularly
• Ongoing communication among students, parents, and teachers
• Scheduling and chairing parent/teacher conferences
• Providing referrals to tutoring resources, in school and locally
• Overseeing Child Study Team procedure for students at-risk
• Special education assessments done by school psychologist in conjunction with other specialists
• Assisting with transition to high school, including the technical school application process
COUNSELING SERVICES:
• Individual and group counseling about home and school issues
• Individual crisis counseling
• Referrals to community therapists and social service agencies
• Conflict resolution between students
• Behavioral observations of students
• 9th grade transition counseling
ADMINISTRATIVE:
• Maintenance of student records
• Enrolling and withdrawing students
• Reviewing student attendance and filing truancy paperwork when appropriate
• Orienting new students to Tyl
• Coordinating yearly SBAC testing
PROGRAMS:
• Six-week discussion groups offered these topics:
- Divorce
- Anger management
- Bereavement
- Friendship skills
- School transition
• Peer Mediation Program with trained 7th and 8th grade mediators
• Grade-appropriate developmental guidance lessons taught by the counselors
